Wolfsburg/Zwickau, August 13, 2007 – Maintaining an established tradition. Volkswagen is taking part in the rallye for the fifth year in succession and is taking some of it's automotive treasures. For the first time, all the historic Volkswagen vehicles will be in convoy.
These precious pieces from the ZeitHaus, the Autostadt and the AutoMuseum Wolfsburg foundation are being entered, to be presented to the wider public.
Included are such unique vehicles as the Horch 930V, the 1961 Volkswagen 1500 Type 3 cabriolet prototype, a 1966 luxury version transporter – commonly known as the "Samba bus" – and the 1972 Volkswagen Beetle 1302 "Weltmeister".
The Saxony Classic Rallye is an historic rallye with the emphasis on sport, where instead of high speed, high precision is called for.
Iconic international classic car rallies such as the Mille Miglia and the Silveretta Classic Rallye Montafon were the influences for the format of this event.
The tour begins on Thursday 16th August at 12:01 with a circuit from the Platz der Völkerfreundschaft in Zwickau via the Sachsenring – one of the world's most famous race circuits – and back to Zwickau.
The two following days takes the rallye on to Bohemian Switzerland and Saxony Switzerland and then on to Krasna Lipa, where every year the participants are greeted by tens of thousands of enthusiastic spectators. The destination – in keeping with tradition – is Volkswagen's transparent factory in Dresden on Saturday the 18th of August 2007.
The premier of the state of Saxony, Professor Georg Milbradt, has again taken on the patronage of this year's Saxony Classic.
